CE hails ground staff for post flood power restoration; JKEEU raises issues
Srinagar, Dec 3: Chief Engineer Power Development Department Bashir Ahmad Khan Wednesday said the department would soon start 24X7 repairs of electric faults in the City so that the affected consumers don’t have to “unduly spend odd hours without power”. He said the ground staff, which undertakes such works would be provided transportation.
Khan said it while hailing the role of PDD ground staff in post flood power restoration in this devastated City adding that their “genuine grievances would be redressed shortly.”
It was his first meeting with the ground staff under the banner Jammu and Kashmir Employees Union (JKEEU) after September floods. “This meeting with you people who happen to be our backbone and proved their mettle in the restoration on power post floods, was long pending and I congratulate you all for the feat,” he said.
The ground staff through their representatives picked up their concerns, including employment of next of the kin in the families of linemen who over the years died on duty, mostly due to accidents. The Chief Engineer, flanked by other senior officials including SE Hashmat Qazi and Xen Muhammad Yousuf Baba said all their demands were under active consideration.
He assured them that departmental promotions would be done in time.
Speaking on the occasion, JKEEU President Abdul Salam Rajpouri hailed Chief Engineer, saying: “Khan Sahib has always put his best efforts to redress the genuine grievances of the employees and consumers, alike. During his tenure as Chief Engineer, the morale of entire department has raised.”
JKEEU General Secretary Manzoor Ahmad Bhat and other senior JKEEU members also spoke on the occasion.
