People should cooperate with administration: DM

District Magistrate Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary has sought cooperation of people to help in control of spread of Coronavirus in the summer capital.

He said the decision to impose restrictions on publicmovement has been taken in the wake of a resident – with travel history –testing positive for Coronavirus in the district.

   

District Magistrate Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudharyissuing orders therefor under Section 144 of CrPC said restrictions are apreventive measure aimed at containing spread of the infection in the district.

The restrictions order states that public movement includingpedestrian and transport and operation of business and other kinds of establishmentswill be restricted across the district till further notice.

He said the administration would do its best to minimisehassles that might result from restrictions having had to be imposed and urgedall residents to cooperate with the administration in this collective fight. Heassured that there would be no issues as far as provision of essential suppliesis concerned.

Meanwhile the district administration has urged allresidents who might have come in contact with the COVID-19 positive case inSrinagar to report to their nearest health facilities or contact its controlroom at 01942457552 or 01942457543 or 9419028251 or 9419028242 or 9419014723 —urging that the appeal must not be ignored.

Meanwhile, in its efforts to contain spread of theCoronavirus infection after surfacing of a positive case in the district theSrinagar administration constituted and activated 21 medical teams for holdinghouse-to-house inspections and collecting data in and around the area where theinfected person resides. The medical teams went to all houses within 300-meterradius surrounding the house of the infected person and conducted relevantinvestigations to ascertain whether someone had come into contact with theinfected person.

The medical teams – each of which comprises threeprofessionals including a doctor – was well-equipped with personal protectivegear and items and diagnostic equipment to ensure safe conduct of the exerciseand correct investigations as part thereof. Revenue and SMC officials assistedthe medical teams during the exercise. Magistrates were also part of theefforts in order to ensure smooth conduct thereof.Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid IqbalChoudhary who had ordered constitution of these teams said the exercise in thearea was being conducted based on the global standard operating procedure inthis matter adding that the aim was to contain spread of the infection.  It should be noted that the entire area hasbeen put under lockdown in efforts to prevent and contain spread of theinfection in the area and the district.
