Police foil sit-in protest of teachers in Srinagar

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday foiled a sit-in protest of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers in Srinagar.

Scores of teachers from different districts were heading towards Pratap Park Srinagar to stage an anti-government protest when they were detained.

The protesting teachers were bundled in police vehicles in Batamaloo and were detained at various police stations.

“The Police deployed at various spots didn’t allow us to reach Pratap Park,” said a group of teachers detained at Kothi Bagh police station.

The teachers had announced a sit-in at Pratap Park on Eid day to register their protest against the government for denying benefits of 7th pay commission to SSA teachers.

The protest was announced by JK Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers forum (JKReTTF).

The association is demanding benefits of 7th pay commission and de-linking of their salary from MHRD funding.
