Police solve 2016 car theft case, 2 arrested

Police on Monday said it solved a theft case here by arresting two persons involved in the commission of crime.

A statement said on 14 January 2016, police station Karan Nagar received a complaint from Muhammad Ashraf Najar of Jamia Mohalla, Pattan that his Alto Car (Registration No JK05B-9180) has been stolen by some unknown persons from parking facility at SMHS hospital.

   

The statement said a case (FIR No 04/2016) was registered in police station Karan Nagar and investigation was set into motion. During the course of investigation, efforts were made but the vehicle was not traced out, the statement said, adding later the investigation of the case was closed as untraced on 3 December 2016.

On September 2, the police station received information with some clues that the vehicle was spotted in Sirigufwara area of Anantnag district. “Accordingly the instant case was re-opened by SDPO Shaheed Gunj and police station Karan Nagar recovered the vehicle from Sirigufwara from the possession of one Farooq Ahmad Wani of Katoo, Bijbehara. During questioning, the accused person disclosed that he purchased the vehicle from one Manzoor Ahmad Ganie of Zirpara Bijbehara, at Rs 1,64,000 in 2016,” said the statement.

On the disclosure, the statement said, the Karan Nagar police arrested the main accused, Ganie. “Both the arrested accused persons have been shifted to police station Karan Nagar where they remain in custody. Further investigation of the case is going on and more recoveries are expected,” said the statement.
