Thousands of devotees from across Kashmir Friday thronged Dargah Hazratbal shrine here to have glimpse of the holy relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) on Friday following Shab-e-Meraj.
Devotees visited the shrine throughout the day to offer prayers and have glimpse of the holy relic which was displayed after every congregational prayer. The attendance was highest at afternoon prayers. .
Emotional scenes were witnessed during the display of the holy relic as devotees recited verses from holy Quran, seeking blessings from Allah.
Various roads and streets leading to the shrine were decorated and markets in Hazratbal wore a festive look. Devotees on their return from shrine purchased items including clay-made utensils which are especially available at Hazratbal market.
Special arrangements were put in place by Traffic Police for smooth movement of people to and from the shrine. Besides private and public transport, state road transport corporation (SRTC) had made arrangements for carrying devotees.
National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Friday offered Friday congregational prayers at Asaar e Sharief Hazratbal Dargah. In a statement, NC spokesperson said he prayed for peace and prosperity to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Dr Farooq Abdullah while paying obeisance at the shrine participated in the Majlis of Durood o Azkaar and participated in the Shab e Mehraj observance the other day.
Divisional administration had made arrangements of security and other necessary facilities. Prior to Friday prayers, vice chairman J&K Muslim Wakf Board GR Sufi, appealed people to protect the Wakf properties from encroachments in their respective areas.
Motor vehicles department had made available vehicles including big and mini-buses to ferry devotees to Hazratbal. The vehicles plied till late in the evening.
Special congregational prayers were also organized at Jenab Sahab Soura, Asar-e-Sharif Shahri Kalashpora, Lal Bazar, Khanqah-e-Maula, Ziarat Hazrat Dastgeer Sahab (RA), Syed Yaqoob Sahab (RA) Sonwar, Khawaja Naqshband Sahab (RA) and Ziarat Makhdoom Sahib (RA).
Special prayers were also held at Masjids and shrines in Islamabad (Anantnag) mainly at Jamia Masjid Reshi Sahab, Khiram Sirhama, Kaba Marg, Dooru and Seer Hamdan.
