Dr Abdullah assures support for future developments
Srinagar, Dec 5: In connection with the Birth Anniversary of National Conference founder Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, the SK Institute of Medical Sciences(SKIMS) Soura on Thursday celebrated its 31st Annual Day.
Speaking on the occasion Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Dr Farooq Abdullah paid glowing tributes to Sheikh for his contribution in the making of the SKIMS.
“SKIMS is regaining its lost glory which was hit by militancy and ongoing conflict,” Dr Abdullah, as per an official handout, told the gathering.
He appreciated SKIMS faculty and administration for their “tremendous efforts to maintain the sanctity of the prestigious institution of the state conceived by late Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah as highest seat of treatment to serve the poor and needy.”
He assured Director SKIMS Dr Showkat Ali Zargar on upgrdation of SKIMS infrastructure including auditorium.
Dr Abdullah said he has already taken up the matter with Union Minister for Health Ghulam Nabi Azad and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh for expansion of SKIMS.
Director SKIMS highlighted the SKIMS “achievements on the occasion which included setup of genetic center, bioinformatics, regional virology lab and so on.” He also informed that “emergency medicine and critical care will be upgraded from 12 to 40 beds.”
Noted gastroenterologist and Ex-Director SKIMS Dr MS Khuroo, who was guest of honor, delivered “Sheri-Kashmir Memmorial Oration where he discussed landmark events in discovery of Hepatitis E and its global impact.”
On the occasion video film on SKIMS activities and life of Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah was displayed. Dr Abdullah who was the chief guest on the occasion felicitated Director SKIMS and also released SKIMS Annual Day Report 2013.
Dr GN Yattoo Organizing Secretary of the event presented welcome address and Dr Fazal Q Parray presented vote of thanks.
Dean academic SKIMS Dr Khursheed Iqbal in his address highlighted the academic achievements of the college.
