The SKIMS Medical College Bemina, designated as Covid-19hospital, on Tuesday started the Coronavirus testing lab to perform teststhrough RT-PCR, officials said.
“Keeping in view the importance of testing, the Governmentof J&K desired to increase the number of testing facilities in the UT andSKIMS Medical College was asked to commission the testing facility on fasttrack basis. The efforts of Department of Microbiology SKIMS Soura, SKIMS MCBemina and the Engineering wings of SKIMS Bemina (JVC), facilitated thecommissioning of the lab in the shortest possible time,” said an official in ahandout.
Initially around 30 tests will be performed and within fewdays it will be doubled as more and more staff receiving training will be puton shifts to enhance the capacity for conduct of 100 tests a day.
The advanced equipment including RNA extractor availabilitywill increase the daily testing manifold and same is under consideration.
The facility was thrown open by the Director SKIMS, Dr A.GAhanger in presence of the DistrictMagistrate, Srinagar, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary.
