Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Friday pressed into service newly procured boomer sprayers for decontamination of city areas, amid the coronavirus threat.
An official said the four sprayers would be used in the areafrom Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) to Batamaloo. Each machine has a capacityto spray disinfectant up to 50 meters radius.
“These are difficult times. We are doing everything possibleto ensure maximum decontamination of areas in less possible time,” saidSrinagar Mayor, Junaid Matoo.
He said with the procurement of the latest machines the SMChas become one of the best civic bodies equipped with modern technology incountry to fight COVID19.
SMC Commissioner Ganzafar Ali said the Corporation wasensuring the infection does not spread by carrying out decontamination on dailybasis.
“Our area of operation covers all public places, hospitals,quarantine homes, interiors of localities, roads and streets,” Ali said.
He said with the addition of the four machines, the SMC willbe able to cover maximum area in minimum time.
Of the four machines, two are tractor mounted and the othertwo are throttled, the Commissioner said. “We can use them on roads but theycan’t be used in narrow lanes and interiors,” he said.
On Thursday, the SMC installed and operationalised firstdecontamination tunnel at Chest Disease (CD) Hospital here.
The tunnel was installed at the entry of the hospital, adesignated COVID19 Center. It is equipped with a latest technology to spraychemicals and decontaminate every person who goes through it.
