Coming out of 20 years of slumber, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation on Wednesday started cleaning of the Doodh Ganga canal-turned-drain near Batmaloo locality of south City where tons of garbage lie unattended.
“In its continued process for improvement in the sanitation of Srinagar City under Swach Bharat Abiyan a contingent of about 300 sanitation workers cleaned Doodh Ganga area from Batamaloo Bridge to Chattabal.
The sanitation operation was supervised by the Commissioner – SMC Dr GN Qasba who was accompanied by a team of Municipal Officers,” an official handout from the civic body said.
“The locals were appealed not to litter/ rubbish on roads, rather use dust bins for it, so that further improvement is made in the sanitation of Srinagar City,” the handout said.
Meanwhile DrQasba held a meeting with pavement venders asking them to contribute in making City clean by use of garbage bins which he said SMC would provide them.
Sanitation Officer Muhammad Ashraf Warsi said drive would continue till the garbage is completely removed from there.
