Pensioners of Srinagar Municipal Corporation have re-christened its union as SMC Senior citizens’ forum and elected Haji Bashir Ahmad as its president.
As per a statement of the forum, a meeting of all the pensioners of SMC was held which was attended by a huge gathering of retired officers, officials.
“After the untimely death of Ab. Majid Siraj who has rendered selfless services for the pensioners of SMC and prolonged illness of Makan Lal Kota who for last 20 years have been fighting for the cause of retired employees, it was found desirable and necessity to elect President of SMC retired employees and other office bearers to run day to day affairs of retired staff smoothly. This was also necessitated due to non-payment of pension of various employees particularly drawing pension from Saddar Treasury, Srinagar,” the statement said.
“In view of unblemished and un-parallel services rendered by veteran Trade Union leader, Haji Bashir Ahmad Bhat, it was unanimously decided to elect him as President of the Forum. He accepted the decision of retired employees. As such Haji Bashir Ahmad Bhat was elected unanimously President of SMC Pensioners Forum. It was also decided to rename the forum as SMC Senior Citizens Forum.”
“Hakim Aijaz Ali was elected as Sr. vice President, Manzoor Ahmad Tarray, General Secretary, Ab. Rashid Zargar, as Publicity Secretary, Shafiq Ahmad Rather as Finance Secretary. Nazir Ahmad Shera, as organizing Secretary respectively,” he said.
The advisory committee of the forum includes Abdul Hamid Akmali, retired Secretary, Khurshid Ahmad Mir, Nissar Ahmad Shah, Reyaz Ahmad Mahajan, Mir Mansoor.
It was decided that the office bearers of the forum will pursue matters regarding allotment of space/ room in any Municipal Property for running day to day affairs of Municipal Pensioners. The President and his team will pursue matters with concerned authorities for allocation of sufficient funds for SMC pensioners and its timely release
