Snow-clearance machinery activated across Srinagar, DC tours city for firsthand assessment

Following overnightsnowfall in the district, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr. Shahid IqbalChoudhary early Friday morning visited various areas around the Srinagar cityto inspect snow-clearance operation and take firsthand assessment of othermeasures put in place to deal with challenges from the prevailing weathersituation in the district.

Senior officers fromMED, PWD, PHE, SMC, PDD, UEED and Health departments accompanied him on theoccasion and briefed him about their respective action plans to ensure quickdealing with any challenges, said a spokesman.

   

He said the DC alsoinspected several important installations of mechanical engineering, power,water and medical-care equipped to deal with different kinds of concerns andproblems that might arise out of the weather situation. He was informed thatsnow clearance machinery has been activated across the district.

Dr Shahid, accordingto the spokesman, asked all the departments to put in their best and ensurechallenges are dealt with quickly and efficiently in order to avoidinterruption in services and immediate restorations wherever required.

He was assured byall departments that they are geared up to meet any challenge and ensurequickest response aimed at minimal interruption in essential services.

The DC alsointeracted with the ground staff instructing them to ensure their presence onthe ground right till the end of the inclement weather. He directed theconcerned officers for thorough implementation of action plans in order toensure timely and coordinated redress of problems and eventualities, said thespokesman.

The DC was informedthat ground staff has been equipped with necessary gear required to brave harshweather conditions while dealing with eventualities that might arise.

It is notable theSrinagar administration last month released 4 crore rupees to line departmentsto enhance their capabilities to deal with challenges of inclement weatheraimed at ensuring uninterrupted essential services in the district. The amountincluded 5 lakh rupees for each department for acquiring requiredharsh-weather-specific gear and safety equipment for their ground staff.

Speaking on theoccasion, the DC assured that the best possible measures have been taken andpreparations made to avoid interruption in services as much as possible andquickest possible restoration of services that might be affected.

It was informed thatall departments have set up control rooms as directed adding that to ensureclose coordination between them a central control room to oversee the overalloperations has been established at DC Office Srinagar. The control rooms havebeen directed to be fully responsive and prompt in responding to calls foraction and assistance.
