Social welfare programs: Srinagar has highest pendency of cases

The summer capital of Srinagar has the highest pendency of cases of beneficiaries who haven’t been paid monthly cash assistance under different schemes by social welfare department.

According to the list prepared by the department Srinagaralone has more than 24,000 pending cases, highest among all districts.

   

The department that works for vulnerable section of societyand provides financial assistance through different schemes like pension forold-aged, widows, physically challenged and helps in educational uplift of backwardand economically weaker section of the society, has a total pendency of 170,247cases.

Under Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS) over 19,216beneficiaries are in the pendency list in district Srinagar.

Similarly under National Security Assistance Program (NSAP),the department hasn’t provided cash assistance to over 3591 beneficiaries, andunder National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS), over 2115 cases are waiting forapproval for cash assistance by the department.

Following Srinagar, Kupwara, Bandipora and Budgam have13554, 13,270 and 13,079 cases pending respectively, under ISSS Scheme, readsthe data compiled by the department.

In Anantnag 10,135 cases are in the pendency list while inBaramulla 9763 cases; 8704 in Pulwama; 7,448 in Kulgam; 5,582 in Ganderbal and1,115 in Shopian have not been paid cash assistance of Rs 1000 each by thedepartment.

Over one lakh pension cases are pending under differentwelfare schemes for old-age person, widows, and physically challenged people inthe department.

Under NSAP, the department has a pendency of over 50,000cases. It is however providing cash assistance to over 70,000 beneficiaries.

In Budgam, the department has not paid assistance to 13,268people under NSAP scheme. After Budgam, Baramulla is second on list ofbeneficiaries with 9,377 cases who have not been provided financial assistance.

Similarly, 8,745 people in Kupwara, 8,687 in Anantnag, 6396in Bandipora, 3,591 in Srinagar, 2,794 in Pulwama 1,986 in Kupwara, 1,446 inGanderbal, 1,011 in Kargil, 621 in shopian and 571 in Leh are waiting toreceive monthly pension under NSAP scheme.

Under National Family Benefit Scheme over 9000 cases arewaiting for approval. Under this scheme a widow in the age of 40-79 is providedmonthly cash assistance of Rs 1000 while a family which has lost its breadearner is given one time financial assistance of Rs 20,000.
