Srinagar’s performance in socio-economic sector to be fast tracked

Principal Secretary to the Government, Housing & Urban Development Department, Dheeraj Gupta, Saturday reviewed the performance of concerned departments in the socio-economic sector of Srinagar district.

This was Gupta’s maiden meeting since his appointment as theIncharge Secretary for Srinagar for monitoring developmental works and otherrelated matters.

   

The meeting reviewed the performance of various departmentsin the sector including Education, Health, Social Welfare, Panchayat Raj andRural Development, Agriculture and Horticulture, Sheep and Animal Husbandries,Labour and Sports.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudharybriefed the Principal Secretary about the status of projects and schemes inprogress in the district under these sectors. Concerned heads of departmentsand sectoral officers while giving details about them raised concerns hamperingtheir progress.

Issues faced with regard to service deliveries and in theimplementation of projects and schemes in these sectors and interventionsrequired from the State government for their resolution and fast-tracking werealso discussed and noted in the meeting.

Extensive discussions were held on shortfalls in theeducation and health sectors as well as skill development and agriculture andallied sectors in the district. Infrastructural deficits and procedural amongother hindrances hampering desired progress in these sectors were discussed indetail. The meeting also held detailed discussions on developments in the animaland sheep husbandries and sports sectors in the district and the need toaddress them given the potential involved.

The Principal Secretary while speaking on the occasionstressed the huge potential for development across most of these sectors andthe need to support them as much as required.

He sought proposals for upgrading and setting up facilitiesand infrastructure which will help fill gaps in service deliveries in thesesectors in the district. He said a lot can be done in several of these sectors likefloriculture, animal husbandry, social welfare, skill development, sports topromote them and help them grow and assured of required interventions in thisregard.

Gupta said the idea of appointing incharge secretaries fordistricts is to take issues hampering developmental projects to the governmentfor their resolution that couldn’t be done at the district level and that isjust what he intends to do — resolution of all issues hampering progress ofdevelopmental projects in the capital district.

Gupta urged the concerned officers to come forward and makemost of these meetings assuring that all issues and concerns raised duringthese meetings will be resolved at the earliest aimed at time-bound developmentof Srinagar as it deserves.

HODs and sectoral officers of concerned departments allattended the meeting. Director SKIMS and Mission Director NHM and JointDirector Planning Srinagar were also present in the meeting.
