Stalemate between Woodland school teachers, management

The directorate of school education Kashmir (DSEK) has taken cognizance of stalemate between the teaching staff and the management of Woodland House school here at Sonwar.

The DSEK intervened after the students of the school onFriday complained that the teaching faculty and the school management were atloggerheads taking a toll on their academics particularly in secondary classes.

   

Director school education Kashmir Muhammad Younis Malik saidhe will send a team to the school to resolve the issue between protestingteachers and the management.

“I will send joint director to the school so that theacademics of students won’t get affected. We don’t want students to suffer dueto the rift between teachers and the school management,” he said.

A group of students who were accompanied by their parentssaid the teaching faculty didn’t take their classes for past one week over somerift with the school management.

“We have become the scapegoats of the rift between theteachers and the management. None is concerned about our academics andcompletion of syllabus,” the students said.

 “We don’t know thereason behind the teacher’s strike but we are concerned about our studies,” thestudents added.

The students and their parents appealed the districtadministration and DSEK to intervene in the matter so that the issue getssorted at earliest.

Principal of the school, Ricky Singh however said theproblem started “after a group of seven teachers demanded salary hike andthreatened not to take their classes if their demand is not fulfilled.”

“They want a hike in their salary that too withoutdiscussing it with the management. This is not the way to deal with themanagement. We got other teachers to fill in the gaps because we didn’t wantstudents to suffer,” he said. “The move annoyed these teachers and they instigated the students to demandthat teachers should not be replaced by a new lot. We want to talk to themacross the table, but they are not ready for it but only want salary hike,” thePrincipal added.
