Frequent thefts at Toiba Colony in Humhama area on city outskirts here has evoked concern among inhabitants and shopkeepers there.
They said during past over a month, many theft incidents have occurred in the locality. Last night, thieves struck in a residential house in the locality and decamped with valuables.
"Few days ago, thieves decamped with goods including a genset from another residential house here. We had many times apprised the concerned police station about the matter, ironically no action has been taken so far," the aggrieved residents said.
"Frequent theft incidents have created sense of insecurity among us. In absence of any monitoring by police, thieves are having a field day. Thieves also decamped with documents and tape recorder from a parked car in the area after smashing its window panes," said a resident of Toiba Colony.
"Police is sitting over the serious matter. We appeal the senior police officers to look into the matter and nab the accused at the earliest. This will help to restore sense of security among us," they said.
Superintendent of Police Budgam, Fayaz Ahmad Lone said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will be constituted to probe the matter.
"Police is meant for protection of life and property of people. We will ensure that the accused are brought to book at the earliest. I will direct the concerned police station to take appropriate measures to prevent thefts in the area," the SP added.
