Tinkering with J&K’s special status will cast shadow on accession: Farooq Abdullah

National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Sunday said that any tinkering with Article 370 and Article 35A will cast shadow on accession of J&K with Union of India.

Addressing a public gathering at Lavay Pura in Batamallooconstituency here, Abdullah said the “entire scheme of our state’s accessionwill come under shadow if Article 370 and Article 35 A are fiddled with”.

Abdullah saidthroughout its history National Conference has “symbolised unity andintegrity”.  “Our party has given immensesacrifices to protect special constitutional disposition of J&K withinUnion of India. Now we are facing onslaughts from all sides and RSS-BJP andtheir cronies in the state are trying their level best to do away with thestate’s special position. Their sole purpose to change demography of Jammu andKashmir, which is only Muslim majority state of India,” Abdullah said.

However, he said, the upcoming elections provide anopportunity to keep “such forces out of power”. “The coming generations willnever forgive us if we don’t show resoluteness in trouncing the machinations ofcommunal forces that are bend to dissolve our unique identity,” he said.

While criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for”squandering the precious mandate of people”, Abdullah said: “He (Modi) hadpromised to deliver on various issues concerning nation during his 2014election campaign, but he has aggravated the problems to an extent that willtake decades to solve. The Modi Government presents a tale of failures and mis-governance.People have now made it a point to give befitting reply to Modi for hisfailures and lies, ” the NC president said.

“After failing todeliver on key issues that the country is faced with the Modi-led BJPgovernment would create a war like situation in the country to subvert theattention of people from the real issues affecting poor, farmers and the laborclass,” he said.

While underscoring the importance of ensuing Lok Sabhaelections, Abdullah said, “Today it is an opportune movement to clean thecountry and the state from the communal yolk. Our fight is with the communalforces. This time you have to cast vote for securing India’s secular visage, and in particular the very identity and integrity of our state.”

He claimed that no section of Indian society was happy with Modi, “The farmers, the house wives, the youth; every one of them is feeling betrayed. The farm distress is at all time high. The situation is no different in Kashmir.

The miseries our state is fraught with in terms of unemployment, underdevelopment and insecurity have soared up during misrule of PM Modi. What good was achieved by Omar Abdullah-led government in terms of development and peacemaking was put into a chasm.

However, it is never late, now that we have witnessed the misrule, corruption and nepotism of PDP-BJP, we should not let them come close to power corridors.

Our vote will decide as to what should be the recourse of our state vis-à-vis development for next half a decade. Besides that a strong voice from Kashmir in parliament will ensure that our woes are brought before the country,” he said.
