Tourism promotion in Shaher-e-Khaas

Jamia Market Traders Federation President Javaid Ahmed Zargar said over the years the old City has been neglected adding that many developmental issues were pending before the government.

Supporting the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) statement seeking promotion of Shaher-e-Khaas on the tourism map, the old City traders Friday said the infrastructure development should be “government’s primary objective in this regard.”

Kashmir Traders Federation Shaher-e-KhaasZainaKadal President Nazir Ahmed Shah said for the past several years the marketplace has been demanding facilities like installation of ATM and improvement in public transport facility.

 “Besides there’s also a need to provide parking space for potential customers because otherwise they often shy away from coming here,” said his federation colleague and trader Omar Gani. The duo said the improvement of civil infrastructure was vital for such initiatives. They said coordinated efforts were needed to restore glory of old City the Shaher-e-Khaas.

“Even the comprehensive beautification plan for Jamia Masjid as proposed by the Tourism department is incomplete,” he said.

Earlier this week the KCCI delegation led by its President Sheikh Ashiq held a meeting with the Divisional Commissioner RohitKansal and Director Tourism Farooq Ahmed Shah seeking their intervention into “promotion of tourism in neglected old City.”

Kansal and Shah are understood to have given a positive response to the proposal.
