Using hi-tech equipment to sanitise Srinagar: SMC Commissioner

The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is using high-tech machinery and drones to sanitize the city in view of the COVID19 pandemic, said Corporation Commissioner, Gazanfar Ali.

“We geared our men andmachinery immediately after the Council meeting,” Ali said. “We also studiedthe crumbling of the administrative, healthcare and solid waste managementorder in some developed countries and build our roadmap on that,” he said.

   

The Commissioner said SMCwas continuing all its efforts to mitigate the spread of dreaded coronavrius.He said the Corporation has incorporated a robust and large scale high-endmechanism in the vulnerable areas for decontamination.

The Commissioner said safety ofstaff and SMC workers on the front line was paramount. He said in this regard,procurement and allotment of safety equipment, gears viz body suits, handgloves, masks,goggles and alcohol based hand-sanitizers have been ensured.

“It is our front-lineworker who is out there to sanitize Srinagar city and then making thingsworkable for us. We are there to work for them and their welfare,” Ali said.

The SMC has alsoincorporated drones in its list to reduce the transmission mechanism.

“Dronesproved to be more efficient and feasible alternative of spraying thedecontamination droplets in the congested areas while efforts made to use the technologyin a safe and scientific manner,” the Commissioner said.

Hesaid the Corporation administration made the rapid action teams within a shortspan of time with all arrangements for decontamination of the declared positiveCOVID19 case areas round the radius of 300 meters.

He said efforts were on totake every possible measure against the deadly infection. “Today, we areequipped with modern technology and we are using chemical recommended by WorldHealth Organization in the disinfection process,” he said.
