Video | Man detained while attempting to hoist tri-color at Lal Chowk

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday detained a man who unsuccessfully tried to hoist tri-color at the historic Ghanta Ghar (clock tower) in the city centre Lal Chowk here.

It was not immediately known who the person was. Reports said as soon as the man tried to unfurl the flag, people present there stopped him. However, the police reached the spot and detained the person.

This is not the first time that such incident has taken place in Lal Chowk.

Last year also, around a dozen activists of rightwing Shiv Sena tried to hoist the tricolour at the clock tower, but were detained by the police.

In 1992, when militancy was at its peak in Kashmir, the then BJP president Murli Manohar Joshi, who was accompanied by some party colleagues, unfurled tricolor at the historic place on the occasion of Republic Day.
