Voluntary group launches personal hygiene initiative for women

Kashmir Welfare Trust has launched a unique initiative aimed at ensuring feminine hygiene, in the wake of coronavirus lockdown in the Valley.

While the Trust is providing food packs comprising cookingoil, spices, tea, sugar, soap, detergent and rice to the people who cannotafford buying these things amid coronavirus lockdown, it has now decided to addsanitary napkins to its inventory.

   

Manzoor Wangnoo, chairman, Kashmir Welfare Trust said, “This initiative will decrease the risk of contracting infections among women.”

“We have already been supplying food packs to the people inthe wake of coronavirus lockdown in the Valley. However, a girl came up with anidea of including the sanitary napkins in the kit and we started theinitiative,” he said.

“Our mothers and sisters in Kashmir generally don’t speak upon these issues with males so we have decided to ensure that napkins are givento the women to help hygiene,” he added.

“The decision was taken after proper consultation withreligious scholars and youngsters; we received positive responses all across,”he said.

Mufti Nazir Ahmad Qasmi and Moulana Muhammad Chandia haveappreciated the initiative, he said.

“Charity is all about helping human beings and fulfillingtheir needs. Islam lays great emphasis on hygiene— both personal, ofsurroundings and of our valued individuals. It is very important,” said MoulanaMuhammad Chandia.

Dr Irshad Muntazir, gynaecologist said “menstrual hygiene is of utmost importance. Improper measures can lead to serious health issues.”
