Volunteers advised to follow guidelines to avoid COVID-19 spread

With threat of COVID-19 looming large, calls for strictly adhering to the guidelines are growing even as volunteers are reaching out to the needy sections of society with essentials.

Manzoor Wangnoo, Chairman Welfare Trust urged people tofollow strict guidelines issued by the administration for supply anddistribution of food essentials across the Valley.

   

“Our youth should understand that safety saves us. Insteadof helping someone, you can unintentionally become a threat if you don’t followthe guidelines,” he said.

“I disapprove volunteers who don’t wear proper uniform,gloves and masks. It is not a two-day show, but a long battle. I want torequest the new NGOs and volunteers to kindly refrain from clicking pictures ifyou are helping someone. Our cause is to help and not to show-off. We shouldrespect privacy of people.” he said.

Earlier, district magistrate Srinagar, Shahid IqbalChoudhary appreciated the efforts of NGOs.

“A number of NGOs are moving relief outreach. Whileappreciating their efforts we must underline it’s not a normal reliefframework. We need to minimise footprints. Please get in touch with DDMA fororganised efforts,” Choudhary tweeted.

To provide amenities and hygienic kits to the needy sectionof the society, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) will deputerepresentatives to ensure organised and risk-free distribution.

Chairperson AASH (Hope), Qurat-ul-Ain Masoodi also urged forlimiting foot-prints in the field.

“We have to understand this is not a normal reliefdistribution situation, so we should limit the contact with people,” she said.

“People should understand these situations are life changing.We should not put lives of our families and communities at risk. It is betterto follow the guidelines,” she said.
