World Kidney Day commemorated at SKIMS

On the occasion of World Kidney Day, Department of Nephrology, SKIMS conducted awareness program.

This year theme for World Kidney Day was “Kidney Health forEveryone Everywhere-From Prevention to Detection and Equitable Access to Care”.During the event, experts deliberated on various topics pertaining to kidneyhealth and management of kidney diseases. They informed that due to increasedlife expectancy and an epidemic of diabetes and hypertension world-wide, kidneydiseases have increased manifold throughout the world including Kashmir.

   

 Prof. Mohammad AshrafBhat, HOD Nephrology, Dr. Muzzafar Maqsood Wani, Professor Department ofNephrology and Dr. Ajaz Arshad in their deliberations called for universalhealth coverage for prevention, detection of kidney disease. They said this canbe achieved by ensuring universal, sustainable and equitable access tohealthcare of high quality and improving equity in health across socioeconomicgroups.

The experts underscored the need for equitable healthcareaccess for everyone and wide scale awareness and education to facilitate accessto treatment and better health outcomes.

Director SKIMS/EOSG, Dr. A.G. Ahangar appreciated theDepartment of Nephrology providing all necessary services required in kidneyailments and hailed contributions of former HODs also in making the Departmentof Nephrology, SKIMS an advance centre for treatment of kidney diseases.

Dean of Medical faculty, Dr. O. J. Shah highlighted academicadvancement of the Department including starting of D.M. courses from currentacademic calendar.
