Akbar Lone wins Baramulla

Contrary to speculations of close contest between National Conference and Peoples Conference in Baramulla, NC candidate Muhammad Akbar Lone registered a comprehensive victory by a margin of 29657 votes.

NC managed to get 131999 votes while PC obtained 102235votes followed by independent candidate Engineer Rashid 100080 votes. The PDPgot 52801 votes while Congress candidate got 34058 votes. The BJP managed toget 5448 votes.

   

Lone showed splendid performance in the PC strongholdKupwara assembly segment where it managed to get 15447 votes followed by PC15213 votes. Sonawari assembly segment also gave comprehensive vote share to NCand it managed 24495 votes followed by PC candidate 10777 votes.

Muhammad Akbar Lone has represented Sonawari assemblyconstituency several times however it was first time that National Conferencefielded Lone as parliamentary candidate from the Baramulla parliamentaryconstituency.

Engineer Rashid surprised everyone by emerging ahead of PDPand trailed just by 2155 votes to PC candidate Raja Ajaz Ali. In contrast to2014 parliament election in which Rashid got just 22000 votes, he this timereceived 100080 votes which in terms of vote share is 22.39 percent close to PCvote share of 22.87 percent and ahead of PDP vote share of 11.81 percent.
