Farooq calls for ‘unity’ to defeat ‘divisive forces’

National Conference president Farooq Abdullah Friday said it was important to “forge unity” across Jammu and Kashmir to “defeat the divisive agenda of the Bharatiya Janata Party”. He also said the forthcoming general elections are “significant” as they will “characterise the recourse of the state for next half a decade”. 

Addressing delegations from several Kashmir areas here,Farooq said: “It is high time for the people of all J&K regions to put up astrong front against the divisive agenda of the RSS-BJP in the state. I am surethe people will give a befitting reply to the RSS and its ilk. If the peopledon’t forge unity at this time, the posterity will never forgive us”.

   

“It is for us to ensure a peaceful future for our cominggenerations. The forthcoming general elections (Lok Sabha polls) are anopportunity for the people to secure themselves a peaceful future shorn ofcommunal strife,” Farooq said, according to a National Conference statementissued here.

The people should not fall prey to the “divisive agenda” ofcommunal forces, the NC president said.

“These forces, directly and indirectly, will try to vitiatethe atmosphere but we, as a peace-loving society, should not allow ourselves toget swayed by their malicious propaganda”.

“In the forthcoming elections, people of the state will givea befitting reply to such forces which are contriving to create a wedge betweenvarious regions of the state,” he said.

Meanwhile, a delegation of traders whose stalls had suffereddamage in a fire incident in Hyderabad called upon Farooq in Srinagar andapprised him about the “failure” of the Telengana government to recompensetheir losses.

“Farooq made a spot phone call to the chief minister andhome minister of Telengana and urged them to provide compensation to theaffected traders. He (Farooq) also dispatched a letter to the home minister (ofTelengana) asking him to provide succor to the affected traders,” the statementread.
