NC to field Justice Masoodi from Anantnag

The National Conference Tuesday decided to field Justice Hasnain Masoodi in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the southern Anantnag parliamentary constituency.

A source said the name of Justice Masoodi (retired) was finalised at a meeting held at NC headquarters in Srinagar.

Masoodi, a former judge of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, is presently serving as the chairman of the selection-cum-oversight committee under the Juvenile Justice Act.

On Monday, the NC’s parliamentary board decided to field the party president Farooq Abdullah from Srinagar-Budgam constituency and Muhammad Akbar Lone from the Baramulla constituency.

The Lok Sabha elections are being held in seven phases, beginning April 11.

In J&K, these are being held in five phases, with the restive Anantnag parliamentary seat—comprising four districts—going to the polls in three phases on April 23, April 29 and May 6.

The election commission of India Monday issued the notification for elections in two LokSabha constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir which are going to polls in the first phase on April 11. These include Jammu-Poonch and Baramulla parliamentary seats.
