In the wake of a pre-dawn strike carried out by the IndianAir Force across the LoC on Tuesday, all vital security installations in Jammuand Kashmir have been put on a “high alert to prevent any retaliatory action byPakistan or attack by militants”.
Top security officials told Greater Kashmir that a highalert is sounded after “any action is initiated at the highest level againstthe enemy”.
“There are set rules and we have followed the same. It is anormal exercise,” said a security official on the condition of anonymity.
These installations include corps headquarters, brigadeheadquarters and other major camps.
All airports in the state have been put on a high alert andall precautionary measures have been taken to prevent attacks, while “strictvigil” is being maintained along the LoC and other routes that could be usedfor “retaliatory strikes by Pakistan”, the official said.
A police source said that police control rooms in Kashmirand Jammu regions have been asked to remain alert and stay in touch with thesuperiors by “passing all urgent information without any delay”.
Sources said technology-guided surveillance gadgets havebeen deployed at vital installations and along the borders “to detect anymovement from the other side”.
Airbases in neighbouring Punjab and the military unit inbased in Himachal Pradesh have also been alerted to monitor activities in Jammuand Kashmir, the sources said.
Meanwhile, Jammu-based army spokesman Devender Anand toldGreater Kashmir that Pakistan forces fired at Indian posts in Akhnoor, Nowsheraand Krishna Ghati
areas of Jammu , Rajouri and Poonch districts respectively.
“Indian army is retaliating strongly and effectively,” hesaid.
However, the situation remained peaceful along the 190-kmInternational Border (IB) in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts. On Mondaynight, the two sides exchanged fire intermittently along the IB in Kanachakarea.
