Srinagar-Jammu highway closed for 5th day

The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained closed on the fifth consecutive day on Thursday due to multiple landslides between Udhampur to Banihal and accumulation of snow on both sides of Jawahar tunnel.

Due to blockade of the highway, Kashmir valley and three districts of Chenab region – Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban – remained cut off from winter capital Jammu.

   

A traffic police official informed that the snow clearance operation from Nowgam Banihal to Jawahar tunnel started Wednesday afternoon after improvement in weather.

SSP Traffic Police, Jatinder Singh Johar, said the restoration work was under progress at several places.

He said at least 4000 load carriers carrying essential commodities for the Valley are stranded at various locations.
