Suspicious object found at Jammu airport gate

A pack of batteries with cables wrapped around it was found at the entry gate of Jammu airport, prompting the authorities to call the bomb disposal squad.

Sniffer dogs of the CRPF, robotic gadgets and othertechnical equipments were pressed into service once the suspicious object wasdetected. However, it turned out to be no more than a pack of fresh batteriesand cables.

   

But a member of the bomb disposal squad told Greater Kashmiron the condition of anonymity that batteries and cables are connected in thismanner to make a low-intensity IED.

“If this package had a detonator and explosives then it hadthe potential to create chaos and casualty anywhere,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Jammu airport authorities in a statement saidthat flight operations were normal throughout the day.

“Please note there was no panic as such. The item detected doesn’t contain any explosive. Airport operations are quite normal and security agencies have done the needful,” a spokesperson of the airport said.
