A thermal-imaging jacket which can diagnose breast cancer, developed by the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, was unveiled at Akola in Maharashtra Thursday.
Union Minister of State Sanjay Dhotre, in whose presence thefirst such jacket was handed over to the District Women’s Hospital here, saidit is an easy-to-use diagnostic tool.
The jacket, to be worn by a person undergoing diagnosis fora few minutes, uses thermal imaging technology to detect cancerous growth.
An agreement has been signed to manufacture it in thecountry under the Make In India initiative with Japanese firm MurataManufacturing, said Ajay Sawhney, secretary of the Department of Electronicsand Information Technology.Dr A Seema, a researcher involved in theproject, and National Informatics Centre’s Avinash Gupta were also present onthis occasion.
