ACB says Kargil works under scanner, registers case

Anti Corruption Bureau J&K today said the preliminary enquiry conducted by it has revealed that there were numerous procedural violations made in the allocation of certain works in Kargil/Zanskar.

The Bureau in a statement said on the outcome of preliminaryenquiry conducted by it into the allegations that Bod Raj Bhagat, ExecutiveEngineer, PWD Kargil/Zanskar in league with Des Raj Bhagat, Deputy Secretary,PWD (R&B), Department “has siphoned off more than Rs.2 crore governmentmoney on account of construction of Pidmo Bridge, Chumogumpa Sani Road PhutktalRoad and concrete abutments, it has surfaced that there were numerousprocedural violations made in the allocation of works executed by the ExecutiveEngineer and District Superintendent Engineer PWD Kargil.”

   

The statement alleged that the said engineers have accorded illegalextensions on their own without sanction from the competent authority. Thepreliminary inquiry has further revealed that “a loss to the tune of Rs15,97,284 has been caused to the state exchequer on account of exorbitance ofrates against untendered work of construction of one number pier andstrengthening of two numbers of abutments of 1 X 75 Mtrs span, steel girderbridge over river Zanskar at Pidmo.”The ACB has meanwhile registered case FIR13/2019 in P/S ACB Kashmir and investigation has been taken up.
