DLCC for implementation of tobacco control constituted

SDistrict Magistrate Srinagar Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary has constituted a district-level coordination committee (DLCC) for the implementation of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act or COTPA 2003.

The committee comprises 15 members including the DistrictMagistrate Srinagar, who shall be its chairman, an official handout said.

   

Other committee membersinclude Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Additional Commissioner StateTax Department (AC STD), General Manager District Industries & Commerce (GMDIC), Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD), Additional Mission DirectorNational Rural Livelihood Mission (AMD NRLM), Assistant Commissioner Drug &Food Control Organisation (AC DFCO), Chief Medical Officer (CMO), ChiefEducation Officer (CEO), Chief Sanitation Officer Srinagar Municipal Corporation(CSO SMC), District Information Officer (DIO), Principal Government Women’sCollege (GWC) MA Road, Principal Amar Singh College (ASC) Gogji Bagh and twomembers from two different NGOs to be nominated, an official handout said.

The CMO Srinagar willconvene meetings of the committee besides being responsible for monitoring andsupervision of the DTCP. The SSP will be responsible for enforcement ofprovisions of the COTPA and monitoring adherence thereto.

The AC STD and the GM DIC will ensure depiction of pictorialhealth warnings on tobacco products sold in markets.  

The CEO and PrincipalsGWC MA Road and ASC Gogji Bagh will be responsible for implementation ofguidelines for tobacco-free educational institutions, the official statementsaid.
