Encroached State land retrieved in Budgam

A few days after the Greater Kashmir published a report on encroachment of state land in Budgam, the district administration swung into action on Tuesday.

Tehsildar Budgam along with a police team carried out anti-encroachment drive at Sheikpora and retrieved more than 20 kanals of state land.

“Locals have been resenting the encroachment and we got their full cooperation which helped us to carry out the drive,” said Nusrat Aziz, Tehsildar Budgam.

“I have activated my staff and we won’t let anyone grab the government land anywhere in Budgam. They had fenced the land which we demolished,” she said adding that more than 20 kanals of state land was retrieved.

People of Sheikhpora have been demanding state land to be developed into public park so that it can be saved from encroachers. The locals said that they had approached both Floriculture department and district administration to develop a park here but so far nothing has been done.

Floriculture department in their various communications to district administration had requested to transfer the land at Sheikhpora so that they can develop a public park.

Officials said that they have passed the necessary directions.
