Ladakh MP raises non-working of DSPTs in Lok Sabha

MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal today in the Lok Sabha raised the issue of non-working of Digital Satellite Phone Terminals in Ladakh, a statement said.

He said that “338 DSPTs in Leh secondary switching areaswhich includes 68 DSPTs of Kargil district have stopped working since the 13May 2019 after transponder of satellite NSS was switched off and about 1000+DSPTs are affected all over J&K.”

   

The MP from Ladakh informed the House that for restorationof DSPT services, migration to other satellites will be required “but I amgiven to understand that the BSNL Circle Office at Jammu and Kashmir has noinformation regarding further strategies for revival of the DSPTservices.”

Calling attention of Union Minister for Telecommunication tothese matters, the MP said, “The residents of the most backward villagesin the far-flung areas of Leh and Kargil including Indian Army Posts along withIndo-China and Indo-Pak border are facing lots of problems in absences of theDSPT services.”

The young MP requested the concerned Minister to restore thedefunct DPSTs immediately as the short term solution and further requested thegovernment to explore the possibilities of installation of Mobile Towers underany appropriate Schemes like USOF for long term solution on non-commercialbasis.
