Ensure protection to Kashmiris in Jammu: EJAC to Govt

Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) – an amalgam of various trade unions – Saturday staged a protest demonstration at Press Enclave here, demanding security and protection to Kashmiris including darbar move employees in Jammu.

Led by EJAC’s acting President Fayaz Ahmad Shabnum the protestors accused authorities of giving “free hand to miscreants” in Jammu for “resorting to violence and arson against Muslims”.

Shabnum warned the government that employees will come out on the roads in case any further untoward incident happens against Kashmiris including employees of the state government, in Jammu.

He said Kashmiri people have always been hospitable to people from different states even in tough times.

“The entire Kashmir is in distress over continuous attacks on Kashmiri people across the country. People outside the valley especially students fear for their lives,” he said.

He said the employees, their families and students outside Kashmir were facing threats. He urged Governor’s administration to provide all necessary protection to Kashmiris and local Muslims in Jammu and take tough action against miscreants

Quoting some darbar move employees, which he didn’t name, Shabnum said their families were not safe in Jammu as residential quarters provided to them by estates department were being attacked by “miscreants”.

“As per our telephonic conversation with them (darbar move employees), the curfew imposed by district administration was confined to only papers as youth were roaming on bikes and attacking quarters of Kashmiri employees in Jammu,” he added.

Shabnum questioned as how miscreants were allowed to move freely despite imposition of curfew. The darbar move (non-secretariat) employees federation on Saturday threatened to return to Kashmir if the government didn’t take measures to ensure their safety in Jammu.

Similarly, residents of Janipur housing colony in Jammu on Saturday said they were attacked three times from morning by mobs, even as they accused police of not being tough on the miscreants.

However, the Jammu police have maintained that necessary force was used to disperse the mob and situation has been brought under control.
