Governor inaugurates TRC grade separator

The Governor Satya Pal Malik on Thursday inaugurated grade separator at TRC junction here which will help to decongest the traffic at the busy intersection.

The Governor said the grade separator, which has come up atcost of Rs 41 core, will facilitate the commuters in Srinagar to great extent.

   

The project, which was conceived in 2009, has been built byEconomic Reconstruction Agency ERA), with the objective to decongest thetraffic at the junction.

The main limb of this grade separator runs from Sonawartowards Lal Chowk and is 405 metres long. It has another diversion, towardsJ&K Bank Limb (225 metres long) for commuters moving towards MA Road fromSonawar.

While responding to the queries about Jehangir Chowk-Rambaghflyover the Governor said the project will be made “fully operational” by Junethis year.

Greater Kashmir on Thursday carried a report that theflyover could miss the May deadline set up by JKERA.

“By June this year all the three phases of the flyover willbe made fully operational,” Governor said after inaugurating the gradeseparator.

He said within next fifteen days the government will throwopen second phase of the flyover.

Earlier during the day Principal Secretary, Planning,Development and Monitoring Rohit Kansal and Divisional Commissioner KashmirBaseer Ahmad Khan visited Solina-Rambagh stretch of Jehangir Chowk-Rambaghflyover and inspected patchwork and other necessary works underway on thebridge.

The officials were informed that work on these projects wasin full swing and will be completed in a “time-bound manner”.

“Workers are working round-the-clock to complete the stretchwhich will resolve a majority of traffic woes in Srinagar,” said an officialstatement.

The officials asked engineers and contractors to work withadded zeal and in synergy and complete remaining construction work at anearliest while keeping safety parameters on board so that commuters do not faceany inconvenience during their journey.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Shahid Iqbal, Director ERA, ProjectManager ERA, consultants and other officers were also present.
