BJP leader wants assembly polls deferred

Opposing thedemand for holding immediate assembly elections in the state by NationalConference, Peoples Democratic Party and Panthers Party, former MLA fromKalakote said that as of now nomadic Gujjars and Bakarwals have already startedmigration towards upper hills.

“They willreturn to plains during October and November so election should not be heldbefore second week of November,” he said. “Thousands of voters spend this timein various parts of Kashmir Valley, Dras, Kargil, Somamarg Gurez, Karnah, inthe Valley. If election commission announces polls for June-July, these peoplewill be deprived of the right to9 exercise their franchise,” the BJP leadersaid.

   

 He said that for the election commission everyvoter is precious and in ongoing Lok Sabha elections, commission hasestablished special booth for displaced Kashmiri pandits community in Delhi, inUdhampur and Jammu.

“In Lehdistrict a polling station was set-up for just seven voters,” he said. “In caseelections are held in near future, the third largest community(Gujjar-Bakerwals) after Kashmiri and Dogras, will feel ignored.”
