Yusuf Buch laid to rest in Muzaffarabad

Ambassador Yusuf Buch, known as a living encyclopedia on Kashmir, was laid to rest on the compound of the mausoleum of former Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) President Mirwaiz Maulvi Muhammad Yousuf Shah, here on Wednesday evening.

Earlier, his funeral prayers were offered at the UniversityCollege Ground, with PaK acting president Shah Ghulam Qadir, Prime MinisterRaja Farooq Haider, parliamentary Kashmir committee chairman Syed Fakhar Imam,Senator Syed Mushahid Hussain, Peoples Party PaK chapter president Chaudhry LatifAkbar, PaK senior minister Chaudhry Tariq Farooq, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insafsenior vice president Khawaja Farooq Ahmed, Washington based Kashmiri activistsGhulam Nabi Fai, Sardar Sawar Khan, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC)leaders Syed Yousuf Nasim and Ghulam Muhammad Safi, JKLF leader Rafiq Dar and alarge number of government officials and common men among the mourners.

   

Buch, 97, had died in New York on Friday evening after along illness, marking the end of an illustrious career dedicated to emancipationof his Kashmiri nation.

His funeral was also offered in a New York mosque on Mondayand his body was flown to Pakistan to be buried in Muzaffarabad in accordancewith his last will.

The body was received at Islamabad airport by secretaryKashmir Liberation Cell Mansoor Qadir Dar and divisional commissioner ChaudhryImtiaz Ahmed, on behalf of the PaK government.

The funeral prayers were led by Safi, following which apolice contingent presented salute to the coffin of Buch, draped with the flagsof Pakistan and PaK.

Later, the burial took place on the compound of mausoleum ofMirwaiz, which is adjacent of the mausoleum of K. H. Khurshid, also a formerPaK president.
