Muzaffarabad, Feb 15: Pakistan administered Kashmir President Raja Zulqarnain Khan here on Friday appointed Dr Habibur Rehman as the new Vice Chancellor of the region's only public sector university.
In all six academicians had been shortlisted for the prestigious slot by a three member committee constituted for the purpose who were later interviewed by the PaK president, also varsity's chancellor, and out of them Dr Habib was finally selected.
Dr Habib, who also belongs to the president's home district Bhimber, , currently serves as Meritorious Professor in the PaK University but he has earlier also served as its registrar, controller examination, dean faculty of sciences, dean quality enhancement cell besides chairman department of chemistry.
According to varsity's spokesman Zafar Iqbal, Dr Habib was awarded gold medal for securing 1st Class 1st position in MSc Chemistry by the University of Karachi. Later, he did PhD under the supervision of Prof Dr Attaur Rahman and Post Doctorate from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, USA. He has a number of prestigious and coveted awards to his credit which include Pakistan Academy of Sciences Award 1999, Best Teacher Award 2005 by the Govt of Pakistan and University Best Teacher Award 2001. In recognition of his outstanding research work in the field of Chemistry, he has been awarded the Fellowship of the Chemical Society of Pakistan in 2006. He is the only senior professor having Tenure Track appointment. He had also been appointed acting VC of the PaK university thrice in the past.
Dr Habib has over 60 research papers published in reputed international journals to his credit. He has also presented his research work in several international and national conferences. Over 100 MSc and 6 M Phil students have completed their research under his supervision. Besides, he has also been supervising 6 PhD students.
