Facebook, Instagram ban ‘dangerous’ individuals

Facebook and its photo-messaging service Instagram have banned severalright-wing extremists it deems “dangerous” including conspiracytheorist Alex Jones and long-time Donald Trump adviser Roger Stone.

Facebook and Instagram also banned the “Nation of Islam” leaderLouis Farrakhan who has repeatedly made anti-Semitic statements.

   

“We’ve always banned individuals or organisations that promote orengage in violence and hate, regardless of ideology.

“The process for evaluating potential violators is extensive and itis what led us to our decision to remove these accounts today,” a Facebookspokesperson told The Atlantic on Thursday.

Others who have been removed from Facebook and Twitter include Infowars,Milo Yiannopoulos, Paul Joseph Watson Laura Loomer and Paul Nehlen “underthe policies against dangerous individuals and organisations”.

“Nehlen is a white supremacist who ran an unsuccessful primarychallenge for then-House Speaker Paul Ryan’s congressional seat in Wisconsin in2016 and 2018,” reports Vox.

Yiannopoulos is a far-right provocateur, while Watson is a far-rightYouTube personality.

Jones and Infowars — a far-right American conspiracy theory and fakenews website — have already been removed from Twitter.

None of the people listed will be allowed on Facebook or Instagram.Facebook will remove any Pages, Groups and accounts set up to represent them.
