Roadside bomb kills 2 police personnel in Pakistan city

A roadside bomb today killed two police personnel and injured another in northwest Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province near the Afghan border, police said.

The incident occurred in a remote area of Maidan District in the province.

A police van was targeted in the blast killing a Station House Officer and a constable on the spot, the police said, adding that another constable who sustained injuries has been shifted to a nearby hospital.

Security personnel rushed to the site and cordoned off the area.

However, there was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

For decades the city of Peshawar has faced the threat of militants, due to its status as a front line for the ongoing war on terrorism as well as its proximity to the restless tribal areas and the porous Pak-Afghan border.
