In nick of time

A patient who suffered a cardiac event was back to her daughter’s wedding in a couple of days with timely reporting at hospital and timely intervention of doctors.

The elderly Pandit woman treated by a Muslim cardiologist has sent her wishes and prayers for communal bonhomie. In a message, the lady has said she is able to attend the wedding of her daughter because of timely management of her heart attack by Dr Syed Maqbool and “motherly treatment” he gave her.

Dr Maqbool, a faculty member at Government Super Specialty Hospital Jammu said the 82 year old woman was admitted with ACS (Heart Attack) in cardiogenic shock with hypotension and gross pulmonary edema. She was shifted to the ICU of the hospital and stabilized with medical therapy. Once stable, an angio was done which showed triple vessel disease. After a discussion with family and in view of age a multivessel stenting was planned and done through radial route (through arm). She was discharged the next day with a smiling face.

Dr Maqbool said ACS with cardiogenic shock has a mortality of about 30 to 50 percent worldwide and it needs aggressive and tactful management in order to get the patients back. “This patient got prompt treatment, be it medical therapy or intervention,” he said. He said it was humbling to get the blessings of the patient and her family.
