3 killed as India, Pakistan trade fire along LoC in Kashmir’s Poonch

At least ten civilians were injured as India and Pakistan traded heavy fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Saujiyan and Balakote sectors of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir, an official said today.

Three persons died and nearly a dozen others were injured as India and Pakistan traded heavy fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Saujiyan and Balakote sectors of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir, an official said today.  

Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajouri, J.S Johar told Greater Kashmir that three persons were killed in the ongoing shelling. 

Rehman Mir, a government teacher injured in firing was shifted to District Hospital Rajouri where doctors declared him dead on arrival, the official said. 

The two others killed in the firing are identified as Qaramat Hussain of Basooni, and Sharaz Hussainof Darati.

An official said that exchange of fire and mortar shelling continued overnight in Saujiyan sector in which two civilians sustained injuries.

They were shifted to Sub District Hospital Mandi where they are being treated. 

Earlier, eight civilians were reportedly injured in mortar shelling in Balakote sector of Poonch. 

Due to continuous shelling, the injured are yet to be evacuated to a hospital, the reports said.
