A Grand Sufi Festival was organized at Tourism Resort Center in District Kishtwar on the eve of Urs Shah Mohd Asrar ud Din (RA) today.
Minister of State for Revenue and R&B, Sunil Sharma was the chief guest while MLC Firdous Ahmed Tak was the guest of Honour on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Sharma said that J&K has been abode of great Sufis, who have pioneered unique culture characterized by peace, love and tolerance.
The younger generation needs to be acquainted fully with the rich Sufi ethos to nurture and conserve the composite culture for posterity, he said.
He said the Sufi festivals play pivotal role in bringing people together and create amicable atmosphere in all parts of the sub- continent as great Sufi saints have always propagated the concept of brotherhood, peace and mutual love.
Stating that State's composite cultural ethos have universal appeal, MLC Firdous Ahmed Tak said these traditions need to be promoted through periodic festivals, cultural programmes and in government-public relationship. He said Sufi events help bring inner awakening necessary for spiritual growth and pious and harmonious living.
He said the tourism department is looking to introduce Kishtwar Festival for the benefit or locals.
Well known Kashmiri Singer Nassem ul Haq Butt, Shazia Bashir, Satinder Shanu, local singers Ishaq Kishtwari, Farooq Sheikh , Adnan Doolwal, and several prominent singers performed on the occasion.
