Police destroyed illegal cultivation of banned poppy crop on agricultural land in Dhirti village of Katra today. A police spokesman said information was received through reliable sources about the illegal cultivation of crop of poppy plants in village Dhirti.

"A police team led by Inspector Sanjeev Sharma, SHO P/S Katra alongwith Sub-Inspector Vikas Jasrotia, I/C PP Kakryal conducted a raid at village Dhirti. The team was also accompanied by officers civil administration namely Hukam Chand, Naib Tehsildar Panthal and Patwari of the said area", the spokesman said in a statement.

He added that during the raid it was established that poppy plants were being cultivated on Khasra No.653 by one Badri Nath son of Shiv Ram. "During the course of action, the team has seized 35 kgs of poppy plants and after obtaining some samples and completing codal formalities, the illegal crop of poppy plants was destroyed on spot by the order of accompanying Magistrate", he said.

He said the efforts to arrest the accused person are on and police teams have been deputed in this regard.  A case FIR No. 55/2016 U/S 8/18 NDPS Act stands registered at police station Katra and investigation on, he further said.
