People from Rajouri district on Wednesday demanded a safety audit of underground cable work on roadsides, alleging violation of basic norms during the process.
Talking to Greater Kashmir, locals from different parts of Rajouri district said that work of laying of underground cables is going on at several sites.
"At several places, one can see cable work underway with labourers digging roads," said Mukesh Kumar, a local resident.
He said at most places, debris is laid on road which not only shrinks but risks lives of commuters and rivers.
"There should be a proper mechanism of dumping debris, proper dressing after filling, clearing clay and sand," Kumar said. He was supported by others including Muhammad Umer and Munir Ahmed.
These locals also demanded that the administration should conduct safety audit of all works of cabling to ensure that safety measures are not violated as it can lead to accidents.
