Rajouri police here today claimed to have busted a gang of thieves involved in lifting of motorcycles in different parts of the district. Police said it recovered seven motorcycles from their possession in Budhal area of the district.
A police spokesman said that it had received a complaint from one Tanveer Ahmed son of Muhammad Hussain of Behroth Budhal at Budhal police station stating therein that his motorcycle Bajaj Pulsar bearing chasis number MB2A1-7c2gwc07604 was stolen during the intervening night of 26-27 July, 2017 from village Behroth.
On this, a case FIR 46/2017 U/S 379 RPC was registered and during investigation four to five suspects were taken into custody, it said.
"During their interrogation, one of the suspects confessed that he steals motorcycles for sale. He further disclosed that he has liaison with other thieves of Rajouri and they work together to lift the bikes," police states.
"As per our investigation, all of them used to break open the lock of the parked motorcycles and ride away to sell them from Rajouri to Shopian," police said. Police said it recovered six bikes from a single accused.
The cost of the recovered motorcycles is approximately Rs 5 lakh, it said.
Police said that another accused has also been arrested in the case.
Investigation into the matter is in progress and more recoveries cannot be ruled out.
The case was dealt by SHO Budhal Jahangir Ahmad under the supervision of DSP OPs Sukhdev Singh and SSP Rajouri Yougal Manhas.
