A head constable (HC) rank official of Border Security Force (BSF) shot himself to death in a camp in Sunderbani area of Rajouri district on Sunday, police said.
They identified the deceased as RC Sinha of Dingapur, West Bengal, at presented posted with 126th battalion of BSF.
According to police, the incident took place late on Friday evening when the soldier committed suicide by shooting him with his service weapon.
"He died on the spot. His body was later shifted to local hospital for conducting the legal formalities," police said.
Police have launched inquest proceedings under relevant sections of the law to ascertain the reasons as to why the soldier took such an extreme step to end his life.
