A cleanliness drive 'Swachhta Pakhwada' is on at the Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University campus here. The 15-day drive shall end on November 15.
On Saturday, the University's Department of Mathematical Sciences held a rally which passed through various lanes on the campus, and saw participation of faculty members and students of the department.
Dr Zaheer Abbas, Head of the Department, briefly addressed the students in presence of fellow members Dr Javid Iqbal, Sharuti Gupta, Aftab Mir, Abhishek and Rubina.
He stressed upon the importance of cleanliness, both physical and spiritual, and highlighted that all religions focus a great deal on cleanliness.
During the rally, a large number of students, scholars participated and held placards and chanted slogans 'Na Main Gandagi Phailaonga, Na Main Gandagi Phailane Dunga'; Safai Mein Bhalaai; Clean dust from your glass, clean dust from your class; Hum sab ka aak hi naara, saf suthara ho desh hamara.'
"During the rally, the students collected waste from roadsides and put it dustbins," a spokesman said.
Prof Muhammad Asghar, Dean School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, also addressed students near Sabrang Square.
In his message, Prof Javid Masarrat, Vice Chancellor of the university, said the motto of this drive is to spread the message of cleanliness among students who are the best messengers.
