A police constable was killed while a Sub-Inspector was injured on Sunday in a gunfight between forces and suspected militants in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
A police official said that militants were firing from an under construction mini secretariat building near the Army's 93 Brigade headquarters and a residential house in Poonch town.
The encounter began at around 7:30 am.
"The militants have been surrounded and all escape routes were sealed," said a senior police officer, adding the gunfight was continuing.
The deceased constable has been identified as Raj Kumar alias Raju while the injured sub-inspector has been identified as Manzoor Ahmad.
A servant of the house owner has also been injured in firing, said the officer.
