With no let up in tension on Line of Control, Indian and Pakistani armed forces exchanged heavy shelling and firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Manjakote and Balakote sectors of Rajouri and Poonch districts respectively.
"The exchanges were triggered by the Pakistani Army who resorted to unprovoked shelling and firing at Indian positions late in the evening" reports said
Sources said that at about 8:40 PM, Pakistan side fired mortars in Tarkundi and Niaka Panjgrian areas of Manjakote Rajouri and in Balakote of Mendhar in Poonch.
Reports said mortar shells fired from across the border targeted several forward posts in Niaka Panjgrian top. The shells fired from across the border also landed in the agricultural fields close to the residential houses, reports claimed.
Meanwhile, exchange of mortar shells was also reported in Balakote sector of Mendhar. As the exchange of fire intensified, shells also fell in nearby by villages including Dhrati, Panjni and others.
Heavy shelling was going on when last reports poured in while there are no reports of any damage so far.
Yesterday heavy shelling was reported in Nowshera and Sunderbani sectors of Rajouri district. A BSF man, one army jawan and a civilian lady was injured in the exchange of shelling and firing.
